COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology on Sunday (Mar. 28) issued a warning for multi-day fishing vessels as a result of gale-force winds in the coastal areas, which is valid for the next three days. Heavy showers are expected over the coastal areas as a result of the turbulent weather conditions prevailing in the South-Eastern Bay of Bengal, the warning noted. Temporary localized strong winds of between 50 to 65 kmph could be experienced in the sea areas. As such, the Department of Meteorology has warned the naval and fishing community to remain vigilant in this regard. In your weather advisory for today (Mar. 29), Heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are likely in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces and in some places in the Galle and Matara Districts, the Met. Department noted. Thundershowers could also be expected at some places and the general public is urged to take precautionary measures.
