Colombo (News 1st);  The report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry repeatedly noted the then-government did not prioritize national security and thus the 2019 April 21st Attacks took place, said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Saturday (27).

He slammed the former government for co-sponsoring resolutions at the UN in Geneva and placing Sri Lanka's sovereignty and independence at risk. “We are unwilling to sacrifice the country’s sovereignty to fulfil one’s geopolitical needs by allowing separatism to emerge through power devolution,” the President said. The President further noted there is no need for Sri Lanka to be in the middle of the power-struggle in the Indian ocean. "The issue I as President face today, are the issues created by the former government that I have been compelled to rectify, "said Rajapaksa in Pitabeddara during the 16th phase of the 'Discussion with the Village' program. Under the government of then-President Mahinda Rajapaksa Colombo was developed as a green city, said the President adding by 2030, 70% of energy needs are planned to be generated from renewable sources. "Steps have been taken to supply power to more than 7000 solar power systems to the main power grid. The use of chemical fertilizers is reduced by 25% every year. These are all projects aimed at conserving the environment as well as strengthening the economy," he added. The President pointed out that certain local and foreign forces and mafia groups that work against the government's program are spreading misinformation and misleading the people via social media. The People must ensure they do not repeat the mistake allowing the defeat of then-President Mahinda Rajapaksa, said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
