COLOMBO (News1st): "Thuru Kepakaru" - an island-wide tree planting campaign, jointly launched by GAMMADDA, V-Force, S-Lon Lanka Private Limited and the Sri Lanka Scout Association continued on Sunday.

The objective of the initiative is to plant 25,000 saplings across the country within 16 days. Speaking at the occasion, S. C. Weerasekera, the Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Group, observed that humans are ungrateful inflicting harm on trees that fulfil their needs. "They are totally disregarding trees that have provided shade, fulfilled the hunger, and collected water for their (the people's) benefit," Weerasekara added. He attributed this situation to the reason because humans are gradually distancing themselves from the environment. Saplings were planted in the Henagama Central College, Gampaha, Biyagama Maha Vidyalaya and Maristella College, Negombo under the "Thuru Kepakaru" campaign.
