COLOMBO (News1st): The felicitation ceremony for the participants of a Surf Lifeguard workshop was held at the Sri Lanka Life Saving Head Office in Mount Lavinia today. The workshop had been organized by Sri Lanka Life Saving in partnership with the US Embassy's Colombo Civil-Military Support Element team. The organizers of the event described the workshop that was held on skill development and water safety, as an attempt to break the ice on the inactiveness of civil lifesaving clubs. "It is very important for us to train the people to watch after our kids and those who are not familiar with water," Weston Kennedy, the director of the US Pacific Command Augmentation Team of the US Embassy said. Asanka Nanayakkara, the President of Sri Lanka Life Saving noted that the participants of the workshop faced multiple challenges as it was held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. "A total of 57 participants have completed this program," Nanayakkara noted.
