Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka will continue to engage with the United Nations and its agencies, despite the UN Human Rights Council adopting a resolution on Sri Lanka, Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament on Thursday (25).
"Sri Lanka will continue to maintain its friendly relations internationally while working towards human rights progress in the country," said the Minister. Opposition lawmaker Lakshman Kiriella reprimanded the Foreign Minister for not reading out the resolution to the house. The Foreign Minister strongly responded to the claim of the opposition stating that he tabled the resolution and details of the co-sponsors of the document in Parliament. MP Lakshman Kiriella said it was incumbent Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who took a list of missing persons and raised the issue internationally.
