PHI Union to conduct island-wide raids in line with festive season

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Public Health Inspectors’ Union has uncovered a ring that distributed and sold rice and grain, which included colouring and other components harmful for human consumption, during raids carried out in several areas in the country, the union said.

Moreover, the information had also come to light regarding the sale of coconut oil mixed with various types of chemicals, Mahendra Balasuriya, the Secretary to the Public Health Inspectors’ Union told News 1st on Thursday (Mar. 25).

According to Balasuriya, such sale of products that contain harmful components is prominent in Kalutara, Gampaha, and Colombo.

Special island-wide raids will be carried out from 28th March onwards, in line with the upcoming festive season, the PHI Union further noted.
