Media freedom must be protected : Sajith

COLOMBO (News1st): Media freedom needs to be protected in the country, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has said. "Freedom of the media is the quality of a developed society," Premadasa said on Sunday. He made these remarks during a tree-planting programme in Hambantota held to coincide with the International Day of Forests. The opposition leader noted that self-regulation for the media can be promoted in the country. "Free media has a right to reveal the truth to the people. Any Government or any politician has no right to suppress media," Premadasa said. He stressed that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will not allow such things to occur in this country.
