Colombo (News 1st); Three people were arrested on Friday (19) for attempting to smuggle prohibited items into the Angunukolapelessa Prison.

Prison Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake speaking to News 1st said the suspects had attempted to smuggle 07 mobile phones, 01 mobile phone charger, 02 Data Cables, and 57 Cigarette Packs (each containing 10 cigarettes), concealed inside a lorry transporting fire-wood.

The arrests were made based on intel gathered by the Prisons Intelligence Unit, he added.

The driver of the lorry and his two assistants were immediately arrested and handed over to the Angunukolapelessa Police for investigations.
