02 COVID-19 death on Tuesday (16); Fatalities rise to 534

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that TWO (02) COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Tuesday (Mar. 16), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 534. The details of the deceased are as follows: 01. A 75-year-old female from Kandy. She was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at Kandy General Hospital and transferred to Theldeniya Base Hospital, where she died on 15.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as acute Covid pneumonia. 02. A 59-year-old male from Negombo. He was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at a private Hospital in Colombo and transferred to Kothalawala Defence Hospital, where he died on 16.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as heart disease, Covid pneumonia, high blood pressure, acute diabetes, and kidney disease. Another 154 new positive cases were reported on Tuesday (Mar. 16), raising the COVID-19 caseload in the country to 88,524, the Department of Government Information said. As of Wednesday morning (Mar. 17), there are 2619 active patients receiving treatment, while 85,371 have recovered.
