COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Police say that 43 local government candidates have been arrested so far for violating election laws.
These arrests have been made during the period from March 3rd—the date on which the local government election was officially declared—up to now.
In addition to these candidates, 190 political supporters were also taken into custody during the same period.
Police further revealed that 41 vehicles have been seized in connection with these incidents.
According to the police, a total of 524 complaints have been reported relating to election law violations.
Among these, 109 are categorized as criminal complaints.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and legal action will be taken against those found guilty of violating the law during the election period.
