Colombo (News 1st); 20 plantation companies filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal on Monday (15) seeking an order to invalidate the gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Labour to increase the daily wage of tea & rubber plantation workers to Rs. 1000/-.
The Labour Minister, Labour Secretary, and the Wages Boards were named as respondents in the application. The petitioners noted that acting in accordance with the gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Labour puts their industries at risk and therefore they seek an order to invalidate the gazette notification on increasing the daily wage of tea & rubber plantation workers to Rs. 1000/-.
