COLOMBO (News 1st): The first consignment of COVID-19 vaccines received by Sri Lanka through the COVAX facility of the World Health Organisation will be administered to those above 60-years of age, starting today (Mar. 08), the State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control said. A total of 264,000 COVID-19 vaccines provided to Sri Lanka under the COVAX facility of the WHO, arrived in the country on Sunday (Mar. 07). The vaccination drive targeting those above 60-years will get underway at Clinics in Colombo and Gampaha, Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, the State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control told News 1st. Commenting on the reactions that may arise upon being vaccinated, State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle said the reactions may differ from one person to another, depending on the strength of one's immunity. Whilst emphasizing that fever is quite normal, she noted that the youth may experience more pain and discomfort after being vaccinated.
