COLOMBO (News 1st): A Police Sergeant attached to the Maharagama Police Station has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000. The suspect had solicited the bribe to release a cab owned by a Canadian National in the custody of the Maharagama Police, Director of the Investigation Division SSP Padmini Weerasuriya said. He was arrested while accepting the bribe in Maharagama Town and the suspect is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today.
