COLOMBO (News 1st): A skin disease caused by a fungal infection called 'Tinea' is spreading rapidly in the Anuradhapura area, health officials said on Thursday (Mar. 04). "Red spots will appear on the skin of infected people, and will spread gradually; the Tinea fungal infection may spread through touch or through clothes of an infected individual," Dr. Hema Weerakoon of the Sexual Health Center at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital told News 1st on Thursday (Mar. 04). According to Dr. Weerakoon, the fungal infection could be cured by consulting a qualified doctor and following the prescribed medical instructions. Whilst emphasizing that for fungal infections, the prescribed treatment of the correct dosage should be followed for a period of six-weeks, Dr. Weerakoon pointed out that the discontinuation in-between the treatment period may intensify the condition.
