Police on alert regarding crimes related to 2020 GCE O/L

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two incidents have been reported with regard to the 2020 GCE Ordinary Level Examination, which is currently underway, Sri Lanka Police said on Wednesday (Mar. 03). "A 27-year-old individual was arrested yesterday (Mar. 02) at Silawatte School in Mullaitivu Police area for the offence of cheating by impersonation," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, the suspect had attended the GCE O/L exam on behalf of another candidate. The suspect who is a resident of Parasankulam in Madumkurni, will be produced at the Mullaitivu Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (Mar. 03), the Police Spokesperson noted. "Another incident was reported from the Madaathugama Examination Centre in the Kekirawa Police area, where a 16-year-old GCE O/L candidate was assaulted by another three students," the Deputy Police Chief added. The student who sustained injuries in the assault has been admitted to the Dambulla Hospital; whilst three students were arrested by Kekirawa Police and further investigations are continuing, DIG Ajith Rohana further noted. Whilst emphasizing that Sri Lanka Police will remain vigilant with regard to the issues pertaining to GCE O/Ls, the Deputy Police Chief said stern action will be taken against the wrongdoers who act violently at the examination centres or in the vicinity of examination centres.
