Dam Street Headless Body: Police discover suicide note of SI

COLOMBO (News 1st): Badalkumbura Police has discovered a letter with regard to the Sub Inspector who committed suicide after being identified as the perpetrator who murdered a woman and left her headless body inside a travelling bag in Dam Street, Colombo, Sri Lanka Police said on Wenesday (Mar. 03). "The magisterial inquest of the Sub-Inspector will be conducted today (03) by the Moneragala Magistrate's Court and an autopsy will be conducted at the Sirigala Hospital by the Judicial Medical Officer," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. Further investigations are underway. Earlier on Wednesday (Mar. 03), Sri Lanka Police revealed that the identity of the headless female body discovered inside a large travelling bag left unattended at Gas Works Junction in Dam Street, Colombo on Monday (Mar. 01), was confirmed. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, based on investigations conducted by Dam Street Police, the victim was identified as a 30-year-old resident from Theppanwa of the Kuruvita Police area. The perpetrator of this brutal murder was identified as a Sub-Inspector who was attached to Buttala Police and who was on leave at the time of the incident, the Deputy Police Chief noted. Thereby, special police teams, which visited the suspect's residential area in 5th Mile Post in Badalkumbura to apprehend the suspect, discovered body of the SI on Wednesday morning (Mar. 03), hanging on a tree with a bottle of poison in the vicinity.
