COLOMBO (News 1st): The Cabinet of Ministers has approved to select and appoint qualified candidates of Grade 03 of the Sri Lanka Principal's Service instead of a competitive examination, the Department of Government Information said on Tuesday (Mar. 02). There are about 4600 vacancies in the Sri Lanka Principals' Service in Grades 01 to 03 at present and it has been observed that it will take more than a year to conduct a competitive examination and structured interview and make formal appointments due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Thereby, taking these facts into consideration, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal tabled by the Minister of Education to take necessary measures to select and appoint qualified candidates to the Grade 03 of the Sri Lanka Principals' Service by giving opportunity to qualified officers of the teaching service who have been acting and covering the duties of principals for a long-term and other officers who meet the qualifications according to the service minute by a structured interview instead of conducting a competitive examination which is only confined to this occasion.
