Colombo (News 1st); The Sri Lankan government had focused its attention towards 06 other locations to be used as possible burial sites for those who die of COVID-19.
Government sources told News 1st, though Iranathivu Island was identified as a primary site to bury those who die of COVID-19, relevant agencies have been advised to carry out a study on 06 other locations including Puttlam, Ottamawadi, and Mannar as sites to bury COVID-19 victims.
The source further said a study is already taking place to use the 06 alternative sites as burial grounds if an issue arises with respect to burying COVID-19 victims on the Iranathivu Island.
The source added that requests were made from the Muslim community to name sites, within Muslim populated areas to bury COVID-19 victims, adding those requests also stressed on areas with low water contamination.
