COLOMBO(News 1st): The path taken by Elephants through the Rambakanoya is no more. This fate has befallen the Rambakan Oya area after private companies erected electric fences as they please to surround their plantations. Farmers in the area allege that lands on which elephants used to roam on have been handed over to private companies for large scale plantations. They blame the Mahaweli Authority for handing these lands over to the private companies. The area residents in surrounding villages including Pollebadda and Dumana point out that the destruction of these elephants corridors have led to an increase in wild elephant encroachments into their villages.
