COLOMBO (News 1st): Plant species protected by the law cannot be destroyed under any circumstances, emphasized the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation on Thursday (Feb. 25). Measures are in place to institute legal action against those responsible for such offences regardless of one's position in society, Bandula Harischandra, the Secretary to the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation told News 1st. The relevant instructions in this regard were issued to the Inspector General of Police in order to prevent the continuous destruction to forests, the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Secretary noted. According to Secretary Bandula Harishchandra, the Police Special Task Force is prepared to conduct special operations to stop deforestation. Furthermore, all relevant authorities will remain vigilant regarding the matter, he emphasized.
