Special operations to ensure Environmental Protection: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana on Saturday (Feb. 20) urged the people to come forward with information on deforestation or any other illegal activities that pose a threat to the environment. Information pertaining to environmental destruction could be provided via the emergency hotlines 118, 119 and to the 1997 centre, the Police Spokesperson noted. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, Sri Lanka Police intend to launch large-scale operations in a bid to ensure the environmental protection in the country. "The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has decided to deploy Special Quick Response Teams to apprehend the perpetrators in connection with environmental offences," the Deputy Police Chief further added. The Environmental Protection Division of Sri Lanka Police was established 10-years ago. DIG Ajith Rohana urged the people to assist in this regard and emphasized that stern action will be taken against perpetrators.
