Ministry of Highways urged NOT to remove SL Legume at expressway

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation has requested the Ministry of Highways, to continue with the construction of the Central Expressway, in a manner that does NOT require the Sri Lankan Legume tree located near the Daraluwa Railway Station to be removed, a ministry official said. Bandula Harischandra, the Secretary to the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation told News 1st on Monday (Feb. 15) that he submitted a request in writing to the Ministry himself, urging them to construct the Central Expressway so that the Sri Lankan Legume or Crudia zeylanica tree remains in the middle of the expressway. However, he noted that the Ministry of Highways is yet to respond to his request. A report compiled on the Sri Lankan Legume tree located at the Central expressway construction site in Daraluwa, was already submitted to Minister of Wildlife & Forest Conservation C. B. Rathnayake, Wildlife Secretary, Bandula Harischandra further noted.
