COLOMBO (News1st): The final rites of Late W. J. M. Lokubandara were held according to the quarantine laws at the Kotikaawatta Cemetery this afternoon. Former Speaker of Parliament W. J. M. Lokubandara passed away yesterday while receiving treatment for COVID-19 at the IDH. Late W. J. M. Lokubandara who entered Parliament in 1977 contesting for the UNP held the position of Non-Cabinet Minister of Indigenous Medicine. In 1989 he held the position of Ministries of Cultural Affairs, Education and Media. He held the position of chief opposition whip between 1994 - 2001 and acted as the 16th speaker of the Parliament from 2004 to 2010, Apart from politics, he was well known in the country as a literary figure, poet and a member of the Hela Hawula. W. J. M. Lokubandara, may you attain the bliss of Nibbana.
