3, 880 suspects arrested in a single-day in island-wide police operation

Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police carried out an island-wide operation on Saturday (13) involving 16,894 Police Officers and 60 police K-9 Units.

A total of 3, 880 suspects including 1,572 people with outstanding warrants were arrested in the Operation, said DIG Ajith Rohana, the Police Spokesperson. 672 suspects were arrested on suspicion in respect of various criminal cases and 127 suspect were arrested for crimes while 980 suspects were arrested for drugs and illegal liquor related cases. Further, 08 suspects were arrested in respect of illegal firearms possession were arrested along with a 12-Bore Shotgun and 07 locally manufactured weapons, said the Deputy Police Chief. 518 drunk drivers arrested following the island-wide operation, he added, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana went on to note such operations will be carried out to arrest those with outstanding warrants and wanted criminals. Those who abscond courts and police will be dealt with according to law, he added. Further, those who fail to comply with the bail conditions and summons, will also be issued with a warrant, he added.
