COLOMBO (News1st): The opposition, on Wednesday, urged the government to table the report of the presidential commission on political victimization in Parliament. "We propose that the report of the commission must be debated before appointing a special presidential commission," opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said Wednesday. Dinesh Gunawardana, the leader of the House, noted that the report can be tabled in Parliament and that the government will not interfere with the process. But speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana informed Parliament that the report would be tabled in Parliament after receiving it from the presidential secretariat. Opposition MP Harsha de Silva observed that the government has appointed a special commission, in line with the initial commission's report, while not tabling the report in Parliament - another recommendation. "There is no order of preference in which the recommendations must be implemented," the speaker said.
