Colombo (News 1st); Responding to a question posed by SJB MP S.M Marikka in parliament today on the matter of Covid burials, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse replied that such burials would be permitted.
Marikka raised the question in parliament pointing to an earlier statement made by Min. Sudharshini Fernandopulle that Covid-19 could not be transmitted via the water. Replying to this query, the PM confirmed that he would allow for burials to go ahead.
The question of the burying of Covid patients has been a point of contention for months, with the government holding firm on its position despite strong opposition both locally and internationally for a lack of a scientific basis for the decision.
