COLOMBO (News 1st): Schools in the Western province will be re-opened, once the Director-General of Health Services grants approval, the Ministry of Education said.
“We are prepared to re-open schools in the Western province as soon as the Director-General of Health Services, grants approval,” Prof. Kapila Perera, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education said on Saturday (Feb. 06).
The Education Ministry has received requests from various entities to re-open schools in the Western province for primary and advanced level students, with strict adherence to health regulations, the Education Secretary noted.
There are 1356 schools in the Western province.
According to Prof. Kapila Perera, the recommendations have been forwarded to the Ministry of Health to obtain the approval of the Director-General of Health Services.
“A number of other parties recommended that schools in the Western Province be re-opened after 14th March 2021, following the conclusion of the 2020 GCE Ordinary Level Examination next month,” Prof. Kapila Perera further added.
