Moves to sell West Container Terminal draws flak

COLOMBO (News1st): The government is trying to sell off the Colombo Port's West Container Terminal to suppress the opposition against giving away the East Container Terminal, a civic activist has said. "If a government cannot safeguard the national assets of a country, what's the point?" Ven. Medille Pagngnaloka Thero, the general secretary of the Sinhale Organization told reporters on Tuesday. He insisted that the government must reveal the agreements signed with foreign entities under its administration. Pradeep Sanjeewa Perera, the convenor of the Sinhale Organization, argued that the purported moves to sell off the East Container Terminal was given prominence to ultimately sell off the West Container Terminal. "The trade unions, several monks and those who call themselves national organizations are all a part of this act," he claimed.
