Chennai (TOI/News 1st); Tamil Nadu Q branch sleuths arrested a notorious Sri Lankan drug lord Kimbula Ela Guna, who had links with LTTE, from Chennai airport on Sunday night (31).

Based on the confession, central crime branch sleuths arrested four more people including Guna’s son Kennedy alias Bumma and three more people from a hideout in the city on Monday (01), said the Times of India.

The Q branch wing of the Tamil Nadu police, based on a specific tip, intercepted Guna alias Gunasekaran, 45, while he was about to board a flight to New Delhi on Sunday night.

Inquiries revealed that Guna was part of the foiled attack on former President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Kumaratunga in 1999, in which she lost one of her eyes, said the Times of India.

The police team remanded all the five suspects in

Chengalpet

 sub-jail on Monday.

The police said the arrest was initiated after his associate Alaga

Perumaga

Sunil Gamini alias Fonseka from Bengaluru was arrested from a hideout in Bengaluru in October last year.

Following his arrest, the police team monitored his associate movements who holed up in various places in the state.

Subsequent surveillance helped them to arrest Guna and to follow his confession.

The Q branch sleuths alerted the Central Crime Branch team of the Chennai city police, which secured the other four people including Guna’s son.

The arrested identified as Kennedy,

Dileepan

, Vigneshwara Perumal, and Prabhakaran.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu police reached their counterparts in Sri Lanka and informed them about the apprehension of Guna and four others in Chennai.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Guna had close nexus with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE).

He was indulged in drug dealing business after colluding with international drug cartels.
