Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka will make an order for 2.5 million doses of the ‘AstraZeneca Covishield’ vaccine fom India, said the Secretary to the State Ministry of Primary Health Services, Pandemics and COVID 19 Prevention.
Dr. Amal Harsha De Silva said the order will be made by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka, and the consignment is expected to reach Sri Lanka in a month.
Another 3.5 million doses of the ‘AstraZeneca Covishield’ vaccine will also be ordered in due course.
When these orders reach the island, the government will commence providing the vaccine to Sri Lankan citizens above the age of 60.
32,539 people were immunized with following the jabbing of the ‘AstraZeneca Covishield’ vaccine across Sri Lanka on Saturday (30).
On Friday (29) 5,286 people received the ‘AstraZeneca Covishield’ vaccine and the total number of people who received the vaccine stands at 37,825 as of Saturday (30).
