Local politico on the run; Public Security Minister tells police to take stern action

Colombo (News 1st);  Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral (Retired) Dr. Sarath Weerasekera has instructed Sri Lanka Police to take stern action against a member of the Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha who is wanted for conspiracy to murder. Further, the Minister instructed Sri Lanka Police to take necessary legal action against anyone who harbored the fugitive Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha member, identified as Shakthi Madusanka. Sri Lanka Police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest a member of the Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha for conspiracy to murder. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the suspect is identified as Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha member Shakthi Madusanka wanted for the murder of 24-year-old Ishan Tharindu. The Meetiyagoda Police have arrested 05 people connected to the murder of the 24-year-old who was stabbed to death by a gang on the 25th of January 2020 opposite a filling station in Meetiyagoda. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said investigations revealed a member of the Batapola Pradeshiya Sabha identified as Shakthi Madusanka had planned the murder. In addition, Shakthi Madusanka is involved in a conspiracy to assassinate the 24-year-old victim. Police launched an investigation to locate and arrested the suspect, who has been absconding authorities since the night of the murder. Sri Lanka Police recovered 01 sword, 02 machetes and 02 motorcycles used to commit the crime. Sri Lanka Police have sought public assistance on the whereabouts of the suspects and request to call the OIC of the Meetiyagoda Police on 0718591481 or 1997. Anyone who provides credible information on the wanted suspect, will be rewarded, said the Police Spokesperson.
