OVER 40% TB CASES IN WP, COLOMBO RECORDS 23%

COLOMBO (News 1st): More than 40% of Tuberculosis patients are in the Western Province, whilst over 23% of the patients are reported within the Colombo District alone, said the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control & Chest Diseases (NPTCCD). "There are around 8000 - 9000 Tuberculosis patients reported annually; most of the infected TB cases are above 55 years of age," Dr. Nirupa Pallewatta, the Deputy Director National Programme for Tuberculosis Control & Chest Diseases (NPTCCD) elaborated. Around 500 deaths are reported due to Tuberculosis annually, statistics released by the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control & Chest Diseases (NPTCCD) showed. According to Dr. Nirupa Pallewatta, there is no definite treatment for the disease.
