COLOMBO (News1st): Farmers in Matara lament that their harvests have dropped due to the spread of weed among paddy fields. "Although we toiled hard to engage in farming while pawning off our jewellery, we were unable to take back home at least a sack of paddy," one farmer lamented. Grief-stricken farmers lament that their harvest is less than half of what they reaped in the previous years. "Neither the government nor the agrarian office has developed a plan to stem the spread of weed among our fields," another farmer said. Farmers lament that agrarian officers have not paid attention to this problem, and are seeking a solution to this matter.
