Energy Minister suggests to reduce the tax on fuel

COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila said that he had informed the cabinet that the treasury had imposed a high tax on fuel. The minister made these remarks when journalists questioned about a proposal put forward to increase the cost of petrol and diesel. "The treasury must reduce the tax on fuel as its cost has increased. If the tax is not reduced, the price of petrol would have to be increased. That is why I suggested that the tax must be reduced,'' Minister Gammanpila added. He noted that President Gotabaya Rajapksa has also mentioned that the tax must be slashed.
