COLOMBO(News 1st):  There have been frequent reports of Wild Elephants encroaching on several areas of the island. Environmentalists point out that the reason behind these frequent Wild Elephant encroachments is deforestation. The farmers say the elephants are now used to entering their villages after consuming their produce such as paddy and corn. The human-elephant conflict claimed yet another life yesterday (23rd). W.A.M. Dharmasena who was resident of Maha-Anadarwewa, Galgamuwa in Kurunegala lost his life due to a Wild Elephant attack yesterday. He was 60 years old at the time of his demise. He left his home to go to the Wanni, Amunukoley field last evening. Dharmasena was attacked by a wild elephant that entered the village. A youth lost his life in the same manner on the 21st of this month due to another Wild Elephant attack. The location where last evening's tragic incident took place is located 6kms away from this location.
