COLOMBO PORT EAST JETTY: TRADE UNION PROPOSALS TO CABINET SUB-COMMITTEE

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Movement for the Protection of the Colombo Port East Jetty is set to submit its proposals to the Cabinet Sub-Committee today (Jan. 22), trade union members said. The proposals were prepared with the aim of developing the Eastern Jetty under the management of the Ports Authority without the intervention of a local or foreign institution, Shamal Sumanaratne, the General Secretary of the Ports, Commerce Industries and Progressive Workers Union told News 1st on Friday (Jan. 22). The proposals were prepared by all 23 organizations affiliated to the National Movement for the Protection of the Colombo Port East Jetty, Sumanaratne further noted. Secretary to the Ministry of Ports & Shipping - U.D.C. Jayalal who heads the Cabinet Sub-Committee, recently said that the proposals submitted by the trade unions will be included in the report, which will be submitted to the Cabinet following extensive discussions. The Cabinet Sub-Committee consisting of seven members was recently appointed to discuss the future steps and reach an agreement with regard to the Eastern Terminal.
