COLOMBO(News1st): The Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa has taken steps to suspend the two chairmen of the Embilipitiya and Balangoda Urban Councils with immediate effect.
This decision was announced via a special gazette notification.
Accordingly, the Chairman of the Embilipitiya Urban Council Lalith Dharmakeerthi and the Chairman of the Balangoda Urban Council Chamika Jayamini Wimalasena have been removed from their respective posts and the Deputy Chairman has been assigned to carry out its functions and powers instead.
A retired High Court Judge has been appointed to inquire into whether the two chairmen have committed offenses under the Municipal Council Ordinance and the report of the inquiry is to be submitted to him within three months, the gazette notification issued by the Governor stated.
