COLOMBO (News1st): A disease is spreading among cattle across several villages in the Rambawa Divisional Secretariat. "The disease is causing wounds on the bodies of the animals, that become infected," an animal farmer said. The All Ceylon Farmers Federation pointed out that health authorities have not identified the origin of the virus so far. "The health authorities have informed that a cure has not been found for this disease," Susantha Kumara Nawarathna, the vice-chairman of the federation pointed out. The disease that has infected cattle was first reported in September. "They call this the lumpy skin disease. Foreign nations have developed their vaccines to treat the disease," Dhammika Perera, a senior clinical physician at the Department of Animal Production and Health said. He pointed out that the Povidone 19 medicine is useful in treating the disease.
