Colombo (News 1st); The Committee on Public Finance informed the Finance Ministry to submit an impartial and investigative report on the tax amendments provide for sugar imports, highlighting the fact if the benefit was passed on to the consumers.
Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, the Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (CoPF) said the consumers had not enjoyed the benefit when the Rs. 50/- tax on a kilogram of imported sugar was dropped to just 25 cents per kilogram.
Further, COPF had also called for a similar report on the tax amendments made to steel poles imported for construction.
