Ukrainian tour group’s visit to Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya cancelled

Colombo (News 1st); The Ukrainian tour group’s visit to Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya scheduled for Monday (04) and Tuesday (05), was cancelled, announced the Central Cultural Fund.

The tour group was to visit the following sites in the Polonnaruwa Tourist Project controlled by the Central Cultural Fund and the sites were to be closed for locals from 01:00 PM on Monday.

– Parakrama Palace Complex
– Dalada Maluwa
– Siva Temple (02)
– Alaha Pirivena Complex
– Ronkoth Viharaya
– Lankathilake Viharaya
– Kirivehera
– Gal Viharaya
– Thiwanka Pilimageya
– Lotus Pond

On the 05th of January, the tour group was to visit the Sigiriya Tourist Zone and it was to be closed for locals until 12 noon on that day.

The Central Cultural Fund said the Ministry of Tourism had decided to cancel the visits following allegations raised that the necessary health protocols and guidelines were not followed by the visitors during their visit to the Yala National Park on Saturday (02).
