Colombo (News 1st); Illegally imported 7500kg of Turmeric powder valued at Rs. 15 Million was apprehended by the Customs Risk Management Unit last December and Sri Lanka Customs seized the consignment on Monday (04).
Declaration had been submitted to the Customs by giving the description as 19,350 kg of wheat flour of which the value is Rs. 1,550,000/-.
At the examination, it was found the consignment contained 7500kgs of Turmeric powder and 11,850 kgs of Wheat Flour.
The freight container had arrived from India and was detained on suspicion and preliminary investigations were carried out by the RMU staff.
Sri Lanka Customs said the goods were imported by a consignee from Mutuwal and he was produced before the chief magistrate, Colombo and was remanded.
