New Kelani Bridge to be completed in June

COLOMBO (News1st): The construction of the New Kelani Bridge will be completed in June this year, highways minister Jonhston Fernando said. The bridge, spanning three kilometres, is being carried out under a loan worth 35.02 billion Yen offered by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. "We hope to minimize traffic congestion and strengthen the economy through these projects," the minister told reporters upon inspecting the bridge. Construction activities were expected to end last year, but had been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic that saw limited workers reporting to work. Project Director Dharshika Jayasekara said that 89 percent of the construction has been completed. The bridge will be connected to the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway and the Port Access Elevated Highway.
