Colombo (News 1st); A special traffic operation is underway across the country since the 20th of December, in order to arrest indisciplined drivers and this operation will continue until the 05th of January 2021.

82 drunk drivers were arrested on Wednesday (30) and a total of 1398 drunk drivers were arrested since the 20th of December, said the Police Spokesperson.

From the 20th of December 2020, a total of 613 accidents were reported in Sri Lanka resulting in 50 fatalities and 433 injuries.

Sri Lanka Police said 38 people were arrested on Wednesday (30) for failing to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

In total 1996 people were arrested for the aforementioned offenses since the 30th of October 2020, said the Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.
