COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police arrested 54 suspects in a 24-hour window for the failure to wear face masks and maintain social distance, police said on Friday (Dec. 25).
“Since 30th October to-date, a total of 1794 people have been arrested for the violation of COVID-19 regulations including the wearing of face masks and maintaining social distances,” Police Spokesperson – DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Whilst extending his wishes for Christmas, DIG Ajith Rohana requested the people act in adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.
“We wish you a Merry Christmas. You have to take all the precautionary measures in order to prevent spreading COVID-19. Where ever you go, wear a face mask and respect the social distancing concept,” the Deputy Police Chief emphasized.
The isolation order in respect of 12 police jurisdictions including nine police jurisdictions in Colombo-North and Central Colombo, remains in effect.
The isolation order is also in effect in Avissawella, Kosgama, and Ruwanwella police jurisdictions.
