COVID-19 CASES IN PRISONS RISE TO 3611

COLOMBO (News 1st): The total number of COVID-19 cases reported from prisons across the country has increased to 3611, the Department of Prisons said on Friday (Dec. 25).

According to the Department of Prisons, 11 new cases were detected on Friday (25).

These 11 new cases are 01 Prison Officer, 04 male prisoners, and 06 male suspects.

As of Friday (25), a total of 824 COVID-19 cases were reported from the Magazine Prison while 813 infections were reported from the Welikada Prison.

In addition, 745 COVID-19 cases were reported from the Mahara Prison, while 390 cases were reported from the Colombo Remand Prison.

Further, 58 COVID-19 infections were reported from the Negombo Prison.

114 Prison Officers and 2743 prisoners have thus recovered, said the Department of Prisons.

05 prisoners had succumbed to COVID-19 as of Friday (25), it added.

07 Prison Officers and 742 Prisoners are currently receiving treatment for COVID-19.
