Corn farmers demand compensation for Sena caterpillar damages

COLOMBO (News1st): Farmers of Ampara are demanding compensation for damages caused to corn cultivations by the Sena Caterpillar that is damaging large expanses of fields. "What we request from this government is for compensation for the damages caused by the Sena caterpillar to our corn cultivation. We have no other way to live," one farmer lamented. Other farmers complain that they are yet to receive compensation for other damages. "An insurance scheme was launched to provide relief during floods and droughts. Additionally, two-and-a-half acres have been insured for Rs 1000 for insects and other diseases," a farmer said. The request of these farmers is to pay them with compensation as they have incurred large costs to cultivate their crops.
