Riot Squad for Prisons in Sri Lanka

Colombo (News 1st); The Department of Prisons will establish a new unit for riot control across all prisons in the country.
Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya speaking to News 1st said 500 Sri Lanka Army Personnel who completed 12 years of services and left the military will be recruited for this unit, as per the directive issued by the President.
He said the special unit will be used for the protection of high profile prisoners and the combat riots inside prisons, and the special unit will be linked to Prison Intelligence.
A special cabinet paper will be presented in due course, he added.
