Colombo (News 1st): The number of COVID 19 deaths in the country has risen to 171 after six more deaths were reported last night. The victims were from Colombo 14, Colombo 15, Colombo 10, Weeragula, Kiriwattuduwa and Bandaragama. Three of the victims were female and the other three were male. The deceased were aged 39, 68, 77, 83, 76 and 88 years. A statement issued by the Department of Government Information states that the cause of the deaths were various complications caused by the COVID-19 infection. Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has increased to 36,667 after 618 cases were reported yesterday. All the new cases are reported to be close associates of the Peliyagoda Cluster. A total number of 8,944 patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals under medical supervision. With the recovery of 491 patients yesterday, the total number of recoveries in the country increased to 27,552. Meanwhile, the Thundoowa West and Thundoowa East Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Induruwa area were isolated from last night. Sri Lanka Police said, the random Rapid Antigen testing procedure carried out on people leaving the Western Province will continue today as well. Police Media Spokesman - DIG Ajith Rohana stated that this is being done with the aim of controlling the spread of COVID-19 outside the Western Province.
