Supreme Court postpones the case filed against MP Ranjan Ramanayake

COLOMBO (News 1st): Earlier today the Supreme Court postponed the case filed against MP Ranjan Ramanayake on charges of contempt of court, to the 12th of January 2021. The case was taken up before a bench comprising Justices Vijith Mallalgoda, Murdhu Fernando, and S. Thurairaja. Examination of evidence on the case has already concluded. The case was called up today to clarify certain matters which were revealed during the examination of evidence. The Attorney General filed charges against Ranjan Ramanayake according to a complaint by Retired Army Officer Sunil Perera and Ven. Maagalkande Sudantha Thero, alleging that the statement made by Ranjan Ramanayake opposite Temple Trees on the 21st of August 2017 was in contempt of court. When journalists queried Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP - Ranjan Ramanayake about the wide discourse on the Dhammika Tonic, he responded saying "Even the speaker has consumed the Kali Paniya. Don't know what he will do in Parliament."
