One section of Central Expressway to be opened in March 2021

COLOMBO (News1st): The stretch of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Potuhera is likely to be completed by March 31, 2021, highways minister Johnston Fernando said. Inspecting the progress of the construction on Saturday, the minister said that the government has appointed a new contractor for the project. "The previous government had awarded the tender to a company affiliated to a minister," Fernando said denying that the contract had been scrapped due to political motives. He added that the previous contractor had not expedited the completion of the project despite being paid an additional sum as requested. "...we terminated the contract since there was no progress and handed over the project to another contractor," Fernando told News 1st.
